Dr. Mohammad Yunus is known all over the world as the father of microcredit, known as the 'banker of the poor'. He is the originator of the concept of microcredit. Today is the happy birthday of Dr. Mohammad Vinus, a Bangladeshi economist and banker who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. Today is his 82nd birthday.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus was born on 28 June 1940 in Bathua village of Hathazari upazila of Chittagong district. His father's name was Haji Dula Mia Saudagar and his mother's name was Sufia Khatun. His first school was Mahajan Fakir's school.
When he was in seventh grade, he joined the Boy Scouts, and on behalf of the Boy Scouts, he traveled to various countries in Asia and Europe, including the United States, Canada, when he was just 15 years old. In the matriculation examination from Chittagong Collegiate School, Muhammad Yunus secured 18th position in the merit list and was admitted to Chittagong College. There he associated himself with cultural and political activities. In college, he won the first prize for acting in plays.
He was also involved in editing literary magazines and writing columns for Azadi.
In 1957, Muhammad Yunus was admitted to the Honors class of the Department of Economics at Dhaka University and completed his BA and MA from there.
He then joined the Bureau of Economics as a research assistant. Later in 1962 he joined Chittagong College as a lecturer. In 1965 he went to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship and received a PhD in Economics in 1969 from Vanderbilt University, USA on a full scholarship. Yunus taught at Middle Tennessee State University from 1969 to 1972 before returning to Bangladesh. When the great war of liberation started in 1971, Dr. Muhammad Yunus used to live in America and committed himself to independence. He played a leading role in shaping the public opinion of foreigners. Raise money and conduct humanitarian campaigns for the victims. There he served as secretary and spokesperson of the Bangladesh Citizens' Association and edited a pro-independence anthology.
Returning to the country in 1972, he joined Chittagong University as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and served as the Head of the Department. He was promoted to the post of Professor in 1975 and held the post till 1979. Dr. Muhammad Yunus is the main leader of the world movement free from poverty. He is one of the top 50 thinkers in the world. During the famine in Bangladesh in 1974, Dr. Muhammad Yunus started his struggle against poverty. At that time he launched the Rural Economic Project for research purposes. In 1974, Muhammad Yunus established the Tebhaga Farm, which was acquired by the government under a package program. In August 1976, Grameen Bank started its project in Chittagong as a practical research project from a village called Jobra. Following the success of the project, it was expanded to Tangail district in 1979 with the support of Bangladesh Bank.
Following the successful implementation of this project, it was established as a separate bank from the project in October 1983. At present its work is going on in all the districts of the country and in the form of Grameen Bank it is going on many countries of the world.
In 2006, Muhammad Yunus and his founding Grameen Bank jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize. Grameen Bank founder and Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian medal in the United States, in addition to the Nobel Prize. He has also won 15 international awards, including the Olympic Laurel and Magsaysay. Dr. Muhammad Yunus also holds 48 honorary doctorates from various universities around the world.
He is an advisor to the boards of 10 international organizations. He was also honored as the "International Goodwill Ambassador" of UNAIDS. The British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration (BBPI) report in London tops the list of the world's top 10 most inspiring Bangladeshis, including Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
